Isaac Levy, co-owner of Yvel jewelry company, founded a social business where Ethiopian immigrants can learn the art of creating ornaments. Orna and Isaac Levy own Yvel, a jewelry factory on the outskirts of Jerusalem that has been producing some of the finest jewelry on the market for the past 26 years. About 90 percent of Yvel employees are new or veteran immigrants. himself. Born in Buenos Aires, Isaac Levy came to Jerusalem with his family when he was a child. His own absorption difficulties left him eager to do his part to make life a little easier for others in his shoes. Since 2010, the factory has housed a jewelry-making school aimed at teaching professional skills to Ethiopian immigrants, whom Levy calls "the most vulnerable community in Israel today." Megemeria (the Amharic word for "Genesis") is run as a social business, run by the students themselves with help from Yvel and a non-profit organization for community empowerment. The pieces made in Megemeria are inspired by Ethiopian culture, traditions and language.
