After their 13-year-old son was murdered by terrorists, Seth and Sherri Mandel chose to remember Koby through healing and laughter.
Since 2002, at the height of the intifada, Los Angeles comedian Avi Liberman has been organizing morale-boosting comedy tours to Israel, with Seth and Sherri Mandel.
Audiences attending the twice yearly, multi-city comedy tours are well aware that the event that brings them together is anything but funny.
On May 8, 2001, 13-year-old Koby Mandel and his friend Yosef Ish Ran were stoned to death by Arabs while exploring a cave near their homes in Tekoa.
After the murders, Koby's parents Sherri and Seth started a foundation that promotes healing. The connection to comedy and the idea to bring comedians from the US to entertain Israeli audiences evolved from Koby's love of jokes.
Liberman, who in December brought over comedians Dwayne Perkins, Gregg Rogell and John Caponera, relates that Seth thanked him for his work, saying that the involvement with the comedy tours has helped him and his wife Sherri to find a positive way to reconnect with the world.
